Dear Saeed115,

CAELinux2011, based on Ububtu 10.04 LTS, comes with OpenFOAM 2.0.1 already installed and perfectly working. You have to enter the Applications-> CAELinux menu and launch the OpenFOAM terminal. I use this distribution for my class at University of Sannio to allow students to have a prompt and working installation of OpenFOAM and many other very useful CAE tools.

The simplest way to install it under Windows 8, in my opinion, is to use a virtual machine and there install the Linux distribution. I have a description of the steps required on my website (access reserved to my students, in italian, if you want access let me know). The same is also explained, with respect to VirtualBox, at the excellent page at ETH University website:

http://www.ifd.mavt.ethz.ch/educatio...oam/vm-install

CAELinux is just one of the many other options you can choose for a Linux distribution with OpenFOAM already installed. All the OpenFOAM user conferences offer a live distribution equally good for OpenFOAM and now more recently updated.

Hoping this can be of help.

Regards,

Franco

Dear Saeed115,

probably I was not clear enough. I am also sorry I did not notice you previous message.

My suggestion was that you do not have to install UBUNTU 12 LTS, but simply download and install CAELinux 2011. It is already an Ubuntu distribution to install as Operative System for you new (64bit) virtual machine.

The OpenFOAM-ToolsCourse.ova is the Linux distribution available at ETH. It seems not publicy redistributed. Simply use those instructions quite detailed about how to setup VirtualBox and set some other issues with your new Virtual machine. Follows the ETH instructions only with respect to VirtualBox.

About the installation of the CAELinux Ubuntu distribution, you need to define a 64bit Ubuntu Linux platform (and be sure that your PC is a 64bit machine with virtualization enabled in BIOS, see the ETH site for this).
CAELinux starts as a live system and after the boot completes, on the desktop you will find an icon to permanently install the system.

Best regards,
Franco

OK, I will have a more detailed try ...

Open VirtualBox, Click on New and in the new window (please my descriptions could be inexact, I have an italian version installed so I could not guess the exact translation):
Name: as you like
Type: Linux
Version: Ubuntu 64 bit
Next
Memory: from 1GB to 2GB (within the green area)
Next
Hard Disk: Create a new virtual disk
Next
Use VDI
Next
Use Dynamic Allocation
Next
in the upper part of the window you can change the name and location on your hard disk of the file that represents under Windows the entire Ubuntu file system. Leave it as it is if you are not sure;
in the lower part you choose the dimension: not less than 10 GB plus the space you need for your data.

Click on Create and voila' ... you have a new machine.
To boot it, select it and under Settings -> Storage
IDE Controller: click on the first plus (add cd dvd) -> Select disk -> Select the CAELinux2011 iso image you have downloaded
Click OK (the popup window closes)
Click on the green arrow (start the machine)

If everithing is correctly set up, you will get, after a while and some pop up messages, the desktop of the new machine. To make permanent the installation click on the Install Icon on the desktop.

Good luck,

Franco
