hi
whenever I install openFoam on openSUSE 13.1 beside windows 8 (not on a virtual machine), windows gets some problems. (I dont know weather the other distributions do the same):
I can not shut the windows down normally by the "shut down button"!
I can not hibernate the windows.

why is that so?
how can I resolve it?

regards.

Greetings minaret,

Sorry, I did see your post the other day, but I didn't have enough time to ask for more details.
If the problem is that Windows 8 doesn't fully shutting down, then try these instructions:
As for not hibernating, that depends on how exactly you installed openSUSE 13.1... and I think that's something you should check/ask in the openSUSE forums. Nonetheless, the following might help you a bit: http://askubuntu.com/a/228069

Best regards,
Bruno

Hello Bruno,
Sorry for my delay to reply. I am in really hectic days! And wanted to use your suggestions and then reply.

By disabling hybrid shutdown, the windows shuts down!
Thank you.
But what if not disabling shutdown and use the command prompt as I said in the last comment? Does hybrid shutdown work in this way? I ask this because want not disable hybrid shutdown if working still by using command prompt to shut down.

Regards

Running the command:
Code:
shutdown /s
does seem to shutdown completely and it won't do the hybrid shutdown.

The problem might be if you need to go to Linux in the next day (after a hybrid shutdown) and if you forgot how it was shutdown.

But it's up to you. You can turn back on the hybrid shutdown option and then use the command line only when you know you want a full shutdown.

Best regards,
Bruno
