CFD FSI software list
Hello
I know that ansys has capabilities for FSI simulation like FEM (static structure) with fluid dynamics (CFX/fluent). I'm interested in doing a simulatin of a wing to see how the air flow acts on the structure. Is there any other software that does this king of simulation ? thanks |
it seems acusolve mighht be a good tool for FSI, due to its basis in FEM.

There are several commercial and non-commercial software that can perform FSI, there are also several studies comparing these softwares.
"it seems acusolve mighht be a good tool for FSI, due to its basis in FEM." AcuSolve is a CFD solver, not a structural solver, the fact that it uses FEM as discretization method has little to do with FSI capabilities, you still need a structural solver. It has been coupled to Nastran, Abaqus and Radioss but these are external (expensive) structural solvers and if you are not familiar with these solvers than this will take you time to learn. The commercial coupling software MpCCI can couple several CFD solvers to many structural solvers in the same manner as Ansys MFX(CFX+Mech) and SystemCoupling(Fluent+Mech). Once again it depends on the problem and your experience as well as economy. You can also build you own FSI solver, OpenFOAM is one of the projects (non-commercial and free) where you can use the existing FSI solver and/or build you own, depending on the nature of the problem, i.e. underlying physics. |
I know STAR-CCM+ can do FSI using either a simple internal stress model or with direct coupling to ABAQUS.
Never used it so I cant endorse it, but I know the capability exists |
ABAQUS also has some CFD tools now. I think you can use that.
I think Openfoam which is open source also enables FSI. |
Guys Thanks for the replyes !
I saw on internet one software called comsol that does FSI. has anyone used this software ? thanks |

STAR-CCM+ can do a 2 way coupling with Abaqus for a full 2 way FSI, but can also couple to pretty much any other stress code as well
