Virtual racecar design challenge

Hi,

We started a virtual F1 car design challenge for wannabe F1 aerodynamic designers (and open to anyone with the time).

The principle is simple: design a F1 compliant car (we are looking at external aerodynamic), submit the design prior to the race. We then take the design, run a couple of CFD analysis on it and use estimated drag and downforce into a lap time calculator. The fastest car wins.

Participation is free. It is a pure design challenge for fun (we are trying to find prizes for the winners).

If you are interested, have a look at the website http://www.khamsinvirtualracecarchallenge.com/

I want to take the opportunity to thank our sponsor, particularly Sabalcore (http://www.sabalcore.com) for providing us with the computational resources to run this challenge.

kind regards,
Julien de Charentenay on behalf of the Khamsin Virtual Racecar Challenge Team

What kind of track are you using for the sim? Like a Monaco or Monza or in between. That will help everybody have a target L/D number.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your very relevant question.

We are running a test trial on 25/11/12 which will be based on Monaco circuit - compliance with F1 rules will be relaxed and no prize. This round is aimed to ensure that we can process entries smoothly.

The challenge is planned for march 2013 and will have a mix of circuit. We have not finalised the number of round and associated tracks. Our idea is that each team can submit a variation of the car (or a different one) for each round to be adapted to the track(s) for the round (if several tracks are used the tracks will have similar L/D ratio requirements).

Julien

Thanks for the reply. I am going to see if I can get a group of friends together.

This sounds fantastic. I have no opportunity to join but I shall keep my eye on it very keenly, brilliant idea :)
