Simulation of VAWT
How to setting up the simulation of a vertical axis wind turbine ?
E.g: the rotor is allowed to spin freely depending on the torque exerted by the wind.

1 - you must calculate the pressure and viscous force on blades of turbine
2 - you must calculate the total force in each direction
3 - calculate the toque by this relation M = r*F
4 - finally, you must calculate the Omega

I've already solved this project.

Hi, is there any chance you have some pointers on how to setup this simulation? Myself and 2 others are undergoing a thesis on VATs but have very little experience with Fluent.

We have meshed the blades and surrounding fluid. But are having trouble getting the blades to rotate consistently or run any kind meaningful simulation.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Tom
There are two method for solution the VAWT problems:
1- unsteady solution -------> sliding mesh
2- steady solution ---------> moving reference frame

Hey thanks for the reply. I think we're aiming to use a sliding mesh.

Here are some pictures of the setup i'm attempting to use.

I'm assuming it should allow for a preview of the mesh motion, but the desired window does not appear under the 'Mesh Interface' Tab.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.
