I have started my PhD in aeronautical engg and am very much interested in aeroacoustics. Can someone give me idea on what kind of topics have not been researched before and what has been done so that I can decide on what to look for in doing.I need to submit my own proposal.

hey,

this would be contents of your first chapter! You should be able to investigate on your own.

I just want to get some ideas on the most active research topics.

Hi,

I am currently in my 3rd year of researching aeroacoustics.

There are a lot of things to study. All depends on what you are intrested in and what kind of knowledge you can fall back on at your university.

You can choose between numerical modelling of the flow, possibly splitting the aerodynamic calculation from the acoustic one; or choose to set up experiments; or even combine both. If there is allready some LES/DNS code, or there is a anechoic test room, you can start from there or you will have to invest some time to catch up with other groups. The last option is probably not a good idea if you plan to finish in 3 year. How long do you have planned/financed?

These are quite general choices you have to make, maybe guided by a preferred application. These range from jets, turbomachines, high-lift devices (multi-elements wings), landing gears, pantographs (thing on top of trains), side mirrors of cars, ...

As you can see a lot is possible, depending on your available time and support.

I am curious about how you can have started a PhD without having a PhD topic?

Are you submitting a proposal to get funding or to get a supervisor?

Are you going to perform the PhD with or without a supervisor with expertise in your chosen area?

Do you have access to large amounts of time on large parallel computers?

Do you have access to acoustic laboratories?

Aeroacoustics as applied to aeronautical engineering has been an active field for about 15 years. Browsing the web sites of the better universities in the field should give a reasonable impression of current activity.

Research (at least the worthwhile end of research) is not not neatly divided into topics that have been done and those that have not. In a well established but evolving field like aeroacoustics progress is nearly always to be made by developing and refining the ideas of those that are currently active in the field. There are exceptions but this is where most of the activity occurs.

In order to find worthwhile areas of study, the most efficient approach would seem to be to sit down and talk at length with someone currently active in the field. Someone like your supervisor or, possibly, someone in industry who understands the field and the problems of industry. Before doing this I would suggest you sort out the kind of work that is attractive to you. Mainly experimental or mainly theoretical? Lots of writing of code in a large numerical program or small bits in Mathematica/Matlab? What facilities are available? Etc...

Aeroacoustics is part of my work but without knowing your environment and circumstances it is very difficult to make any worthwhile suggestions at the level of writing a proposal (for a grant).

From Miss Lucy Momoh.. Abidjan Cote D' I voire. Email: lucymomoh1@yahoo.fr

Dearest One,

For my safety and security of my future I am making this proposal to you for our mutual benefit. This however is not mandatory nor will I in any manner compel you to honour it against your will. I am Miss Lucy Momoh., 22 years old and the only daughter of my late parents Mr.and Mrs.Clifford Momoh. My father was a highly reputable busnness magnet-(a cocoa merchant)who operated in the capital of Ivory coast during his days. It is sad to say that he passed away mysteriously during one of his business trips abroad on the 12th.NOV. 2005. Though his sudden death was linked or rather suspected to have been masterminded by an uncle who travelled with him at that time. But God knows the truth! My mother died when I was just 4 years old, and since then my father took me so special. Before his death on NOV 12th, 2005 he called the secretary who accompanied him to the hospital and told him that he has the sum of Four million, Five hundred thousand United State Dollars.(USD$4.500,000) deposited in a bank here in Abidjan which he use my name as next of kin .

He further told him that he deposited the money with my name as the next of kin, and finally told him to tell me where to find the documents of the deposit which he said was in possession of his lawyer in sealed documents held by him and asked me to collect it from him and all the necessary documents to this fund. I am just 22 years old and a first year university undergraduate and really don't know what to do.

Now I want a trust worthy person who can help me to transfer this money and provide an account overseas where I can transfer this funds. This is because I have suffered a lot of set backs as a result of incessant political crisis here in Ivory coast. The death of my father actually brought sorrow to my life.I am in a sincere desire of your humble assistance in this regards. Your suggestions and ideas will be highly regarded.

Now permit me to ask these few questions:-

1. Can you honestly take me as your own and help me.

2. Can I completely trust you?

3. What percentage of the total amount in question will be good for you after the money is in your account?

Please, Consider this and get back to me as soon as possible so that i can forward the documents to you after we have agreed on the conditions for your assistance. My life is not safe here and i need to be out of here as soon as possible because now that my father is dead and with me only as a female child, my uncles will be seeking to kill me so that they can have all my fathers properties. i really don't want to struggle anything with them in terms of properties but my presence will still be disturbing them. thank God they are not aware of this fund in the bank hence, I want to leave here as soon as you help me to lodge it into a safe account in your stable country and then send me some amount to enable me prepare to meet you. Without your help, i will find it difficult to travel and transfer it myself alone with my little or no experience.

I am waiting for your urgent reply with your contact phone number so that i can give you the contact of the bank were my late father deposited this money for you to contact them as my late father's partner.

Thank you so much.

My sincere regards

Miss Lucy Momoh.
