"bos si nesk"? I don't think this specifically describes a pronunciation in English, does it? Does "bos" sound like "boss" or "bose" or "boze" or "boose" or what? And does "si" sound like "see" or "sigh" or "seh" or what? Which is emphasized?

Forgive me, I have no French whatsoever.

The "nesk" part, I'm gonna wager I've got that now...

I have always heard it pronounced as Boo - sin - nesk, with slightly more emphasis on the first syllable than the third.

Yeah, he was a french. Complete name Valentin Joseph Boussinesq. French has a rule that double ss is pronounced as s and not z, single s is pronounced as z with voiced consonants around. If the last character is consonant, it is usually not pronounced. So, the pronounciation is

Bosi-ne with a grave accent over e.

I am surprised I have apparently offended people. I certainly didn't mean to and am not sure how I did. I appologize to whomever I offended.

Dictionaries don't include proper nouns such as people's names - I did just verify that with Webster's New Collegiate.

So, at this point I am still unsure how to pronounce Boussinesq. If anybody can point to a reliable reference, it'd be great.

The standard pronouciation in English (and used by everyone O know) is Boo-zin-esk.
