Determine the exact location of the vertex center?

Hello, everyone,

I am asking a question about data postprocessing. I get the results for the flow past a cyliner. But I don't know how to exactly locate the center of the vortex behind the cylinder and how to exactly get the separation angle.

You help is most appreciated!

Thanks a lots!!!

Dear Anna,

I am not sure if the 'exact' location of votex center and the separation angle can be determined. However, from viewpoint of data processing, a reasonably good ide of these can be obtained. These can be obtained by plotting the streamlines for the flow.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Ganesh

Hi !!

You can find the center of vortex from the stream-function data and recirculation (or wake) length from the velocity data.

Separation angle: Separation angle can be determined by calculating the vorticity (or shear-stress) on the surface of the cylinder. The point at which the value is zero can be noted as the point of separation (or separation angle).

Best regards.... Ramp
