PhD in automotive industry

Hi,

does anybody know, if the automotive industry use LES calculations (e.g. for aeroacoustic or aerodynamic purposes), yet? I would imagine, that there could be a 'need' in sunroof (buffeting and natural ventilation) and hvac applications!?

If there is no use of LES, how 'fundamental' would a PhD in automotive industry will get? I mean, would it be just applied CFD or is there a chance to get a little bit deeper into turbulence?

A lot of question ... maybe someone has an idea or hints, like any papers or more information on the web.

Regards! fab

IMHO, whoever wants to apply LES has to go a little deeper into turbulence. However the main interest of automotive industry is to develop cars and not turbulence models.

Hi,

thanks, but would their be a chance to do any LES calculations in those mentioned fields? What are the most fundamental topics they deal with in the automotive industry today?

Fab,

Take a wander over to <www.sae.org>, & you may be able to get some sort of idea of the current industry trends.
