Robust Algorithms for Fluid Flow

Hi,
I want to know which algorithm is suggested in order to utilize in a general code for 3D fluid flow. I have written a 2D code based on SIMPLER which has been validated for the cavity problem in low Re.s but I have found that this method and also the other methods of SIMPLE family fails in Re numbers higher than almost 800 (for the cavity problem, based on the works of Ertuk research group). Please let me know what the softwares such as Fluent do in dealing with this challenge. Also, please let me know, if the SIMPLE family methods are robust so that could be utilized to study of complex fluid flow for instance in channels with serious turnings.
I would be grateful if someone could please help me. Thanks in advance.
Regards

very surprising what you are saying !
We have performed some runs in 2D case in the problem of the liddriven cavity for Re=10000 with SIMPLE without any problems.

SIMPLE family methods are totaly qualified for any kind of fluid flows
Fluent and many other codes use SIMPLE, SIMPLER and PISO.
Even SIMPISO for Star-CD :D

Projection method is also very robust but not much used in commercial codes.

yes, it happens. but please increase your mesh density and reduce your under relaxation factor. it will works.
