How to extract right- and left-moving waves

This is a post-pro question, so may be OT here. However...
If I have a 1D section of a model and full access to transient time-based results for all the relevant information (pressure, velocity, temperature, etc), how can I extract left-travelling and right-travelling pressure waves? To make things worse, the system is by no means linear. Any references or explanations welcome. |

Hello,
You could try to compute frequency-wavenumber spectra. If the waves contain enough energy copmared to other unsteady events, they should be seen in opposite f-k half-planes as curves whose shapes is related to the dispersion relation. See Larcheveque et al. JFM 516, pp. 265-301 for an example with a plane pressure wave (sorry for the shameless self-citation). Hope this helps, Lionel |
