Hello,
When I using the third-order WENO scheme to simulate the supersonic flow past a blunt cone (or circular cyliner, sphere), there is some adverse flow (the direction of the flow is against that of the incoming flow ) before the stagnation point, could someone tell me the reason and how to solve this problem? I have tried many ways like changing the grids or altering other flux splitting methods, but the problem still exists. thanks, flyingseed |

Is it carbuncle?

I think it is not the carbuncle phenomenon

thanks for your reply
The pressure and the heating flux on the wall show reasonable agreement with the experiments. And the shock is smooth. So I think it is not the carbuncle flyingseed |

Could you post some pictures (velocity or Ma fields or v(x) along axis of symmetry)?
What is the order of magnitude of reverse flow velocity in relation to velocity behind normal shock? I think if even heat fluxes show reasonable agreement with the experiments than (weak?) adverse flow is not a thing to worry about. |
