Looking for alternative learning institution
 

I thought that I'd put up a posting & ask for group applied wisdom on how to solve the current dilemma I seem to be facing. (I am posting under a 'pen name' as I am a fairly regular poster on this site & didn't want to blur objectivity).

Original base degree: Physics, specialising into Mechanical Engineering, in Southern Africa. With Summa Cum Laude.

Current situation: PhD study program consisting of both coursework & disertation components. Have completed 7 of 8 subjects with distinction in all (GPA 4.0) - 1 currently in progress. All costs carried by myself thus far.

On the research side, I went into the program after some 20 years working in the consulting industry, a large percentage of which involved numeric simulation in various forms. I have worked steadily for the past 18 months to basically explore the original potential research topic & with a large amount of lateral research, with the intention of firmly establishing the goals & basic theoretical framework for the final Project Proposal.

The upshot of the research phase is that I seem to have identified a phenomenon which offers tremendous potential into understanding the mechanism for flow turbulence. (This has been extensively debated on this very forum, & has been dramatically improved since).

This has begun to position my research more closely with what appears to be a Continuum Mechanics/Physics perspective - than Applied Maths/Fluids Engineering.

Dilemma:

During this research, I have basically outgrown my surrounding academic peers, save for a select small core group - who, unfortunately don't overlap enough for me to bed my work down under their guidance until project completion.

I am currently studying in one of the better S.E.Asian Universities, but really believe that I have begun to run out of suitable Project Supervisors.

What I am looking for:

I'd like to find a centre-of-excellence specialising in Continuum Mechanics/Physics/Numerics/Simulation in either UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand (as this is culturally closer to my roots), where I could continue my research until final completion. For me, a logical break-point would be after the completion of my final course subject.

I would be happy to do part-time engineering work alongside my studies if an adequate grant were not available.

I would really value anyone who could direct me towards meaningful, useful links. I believe that I have a lot of useful insights to give back to science.
