fire and smoke modelling--an initial stage???

As the 1st assamption you can use "Combustion Fundamentals of Fire", G.Cox, Academic Press, 1995, ISBN 0-12-194230-9. There you'll find a lot of references. Also it is possible to look over recent volumes of "Fire Safety Journal", "J.of Applied Fire Science" - a lot of CFD-oriented articles were published there also. Different CFD software packeges (CFX, PHOENIX, etc.) can model diffusion combustion and radiation heat transfer which are the most interesting problems for fire modeling.

heat release source instead of combustion; ( and don't even mention solid fuel burning) well controlled fuel release; ignored radition; These are the most references I have been seeing in Fire safety Journal or in 'combustion fundamentals of fire'. I am really keen to find out where are we standing now, and how far away to the origin of the real stuff. And don't forget the CFD results, "agree well", or whatever, does this mean we are near enough to the truth??

Sorry, may be I didn't look into "Fire Saf.J." for a long time !
As a matter of fact, Eddy-Breake Up combustion model + Discrete Transfer Radiation Method (or at least 6-flux method) are the most popular "set" of models for CFD fire prediction. For instance: Novogilov, ..., "Numerical Simulation of Enclosed Gas Fire Extinguishment by Water Spray", J.Appl.Fire Science, V.5(2), 135-146, 1995-1996. (this one was "under hand"). As a matter of fact, it is possible to model radiation heat transfer as a heat sink term? but only if the fire source and heat plume little enough comparing with compartment size (as far as I know). Actually, what kind of problem do you need to solve? Why are you not satisfied with these very common models? Dmitriy |
