Look at the following book:

P. Holmes, JL Lumley, and G. Berkooz, Turbulence, coherent structures, dynamical systems and symmetry, Cambridge, Cambridge University Press, 1996.

In this book there is a chapter on proper orthogonal decomposition and reducing order method, and another chapter on projection method, some materials are based this paper: G Berkooz, P Holmes, and JL Lumley.
