Hello Everybody,

I need an advice and hope that someone will be able to help.

Actually, I'm working on a big project concerning a Suite composed by 4 Softwares. For sure if I develop it by myself I will spend 4 or 5 years

So I'm planning to search people around the world via the web who will be interested by working with me on this project.

But there's a risk that one of them can take the idea and develop it by himself. And being in different country will emphazise this possibility. So we need to have a legal "frame" in order to protect us from each others.

So have you any idea or suggestion??

get a contract drawn up with interlectual property protection, although of course this is tricky internationally...

Seems I'm following Ben around today. - In many countries a legal agreement to respect IP isn't worth the paper its printed on. Even in those where it is enforceable, enforcing it is expensive and time consuming at a minimum (ever try suing someone in a US court?). You can have any agreement you want, but if you don't trust the people you are working with it just doesn't mean much.

That's my point of view too. But maybe it's better that nothing. And that's why I post this discussion. To have different suggestions and critics.

Are you developing this capability yourself or doing it for someone else? That is, are you paying from your own pocket (or have convinced others to invest in the technology) and thus "own" the technology? If yes, then perhaps a smart business strategy would be to offer partial ownership to the team - in that case you will be reducing the risk of IP theft and will be increasing the loyalty of the individual players to the team. This, of course, means that you have to look for the best and the brightest and figure out what exactly they will bring to the table beyond just the initial stages of code development (to make it worth your while to offer them partial ownership).

By the way, stealing technology is not unique to remote employees/contractors; it is a nightmare even if they work on site at an office right next to you.
