Hi, I am a 3rd year university student; I am looking at the effects of induced drag over a wing with varying wingtips. I have the models in catia V5; these will be modelled via 3d printer and tested in a small subsonic wind tunnel. These results will be compared to my CFD findings.
Firstly my university uses gambit 2.4.6 and Fluent 14.
I am after some advice is there any program that easily can take my 3D model and use it directly, as I have limited understanding of Gambit and looking on the internet it appears limited in what it can do.
My requirements; do 2D analysis of a NACA 4412 profile at 8 degree AoA
Do 3D analysis of the wing.
I would appreciate any advice
Thanks
Mike

Try ICEM. It is Ansys meshing product, very popular and useful.

Since you have Fluent, I'm guessing that you'll have the ANSYS mesher within workbench. If so, then the workflow is very simple. Import the parasolid/IGES/STEP file into DesignModeler, create the fluid volume around the wing and then open it in the Workbench mesher. This mesher is the most simple and straightforward, with plenty of appropriate tutorials available.

I would not go with the Workbench flowchart for the 3D case, as I don't like the control you have over the mesh using Ansys Mesher. It is a good option to setup the 2D case though.

Using Ansys products, I would go with ICEM CFD for the 3D case. As an education process, I would suggest to a new user to use ICEM CFD for both case (setting up 2D case first, and then proceeding with the 3D case)
