Cylinder Vortex Shedding Validation Testcase
 
Hey all,

I was looking online for a nicely described cylinder with vortex shedding validation testcase (high reynolds) but I was not able to find anything. I would like it to have computational domain description, boundary conditions and results. Any suggestions?

You are right. High is relative. I would like to try several cases. From 90 to 10^5 or even 10^6 and check how the vortex shedding in affected.

Hello giodan!

Well, I don't think that at such Reynolds number you'll have any vortex shedding rather than a fully turbulent wake (after the critical Reynolds). Anyway, I think that a good source for papers is nasa's website. You may find something useful over there.

Actually you can have vortex shedding at Re > 10^6. A good reference with experimental data (if you can get it) is

G. W. Jones, Jr., "Unsteady Lift Forces Generated by Vortex Shedding about a Large, Stationary, and Oscillating Cylinder at High Reynolds Numbers", ASME Symp. Unsteady Flow, 1968.

The same author has published several works in a similar vein under the auspices of NASA. Look for NASA Technical Report R-300 by Jones, Cincotta, and Walker.

Another reference is Roshko, "Experiments on the Flow Past a Circular Cylinder at Very High Reynolds Number", Journal of Fluid Mechanics 10, pp.345-356.

Actually, he/she is not interested in Re>10^6 rather that is his/her upper limit so in answer to giodan's question those papers are quite irrelevant for that case.

Giodan, I did this topic for my Master's thesis. Perhaps my thesis will be a good starting point for you. At the very least the references will give you some papers to read.
