hi

i'm a beginner in cfd and some problems being confused

a) why we normally put zero static pressure condition in the outlet boundary? in which case we can put other parameters like flow rate or velocity?

b) Can anyone describe what mean flow profile in turbulent flow mean?

Turbulent flow shows highly varying flow characteristic with lots of chaotic characteristics. When carefully observe turbulent flow, we find the velocity profile composes of mean component and fluctuating component. PLease read Turbulence by Davidson's first chapter, to get a good idea about what I am speaking about.

Pressure in incompressible flow can be arbitrarily fixed to any one point. Hence we can fix P=0 at outlet for fully developed flow, much to our ease.
Read veerstag's cfd for further deatils
