Hi,

I want to venture into the CFD field and would like to know what the current salaries are for consultants (both contract and full time employees) at different levels of experience (junior, intermiediate and expert).

I would really appreciate some feedback as I am preparing to invest in training and acquiring knowledge and resources, and would like to work out my returns and finalise my 'feasibility study'.

Cheers, Sean.

This all really depends on what market you are planning to operate in. In your bog standard UK engineering world, a junior contractor would be about £20-40/hr, an intermediate would be around £40-60/hr, and a top draw consultant could charge upto about £90. However, when you start serving people like the pharmaceutical and medical engineering industries, you can start charging a bit more. Also, rare hard to get work like expert witness stuff can make you a small fortune if you get the right client.

RE salaries, the same applies really. In your bog standard engineering industries, an entry level CFD guy might start at £24k if he's lucky. In the pharmaceutical/medical industry, you can enter in the low 30's if you play your cards right. As with any salaried job, the more people you manage, the more money you'll make, so you might end up making £40k if you run an analysis team. But if you do that you might as well project manage design & builds and have the potential to earn a lot more.
