Differences between menter SST and wilcox 2006
 

Hi,

What are the differences and advantages between the models? Does anyone know of any studies comparing them?

From what i understand of the equations, it looks like the 2006 wilcox model is very similar to the SST in that both include a blending in the turbulent viscosity and the omega equation. Wilcox mentions his new model is good for both separated flows and shear layers without modification, is this also true with Menters SST?

I am sure you'll get the reference paper from google or previous posts of senior members.
To cut it short, at relatively low reynolds number (say 100000)wilcox's model , due to its dissipative nature sometimes fail to predict the pressure-gradients (from my experience, it overestimates the span of large vortexes). Aerodynamically speaking, the calculation for events where these large vortex shedding dominates the phenomena (say dynamic stall) wilcox's model is not suitable.
As for sst model, due to the modified formulation of the closure problem, it works pretty smoothly
