Yup, my sole interest in CFD is with regard to the graphics industry.

Funny that they tote this as a new thing. The graphics/entertainment industry has been playing with fluid models since the early 90s with Fiume and Fournier, and later Stam, Foster, Fedkiw, just to name a few. I'm not sure what Desburn is up to lately, but he did a lot of work on making SPH codes more attractive to the graphics community.

I think the big difference between the graphics folks and the scientific types is that you guys worry about accuracy, and we worry about believability. Sometimes the two are synonymous. But sometimes we can cut a few corners that you can't, run lower resolutions, extrapolate, add creative hacks, and generally get away with what you guys would consider murder.

" But Desbrun's equations bypass simple velocity and instead describe the swirling motion exactly, and in a way that computers can easily crunch. "Instead of just approximating them, we can capture the dynamics faithfully," he says. "And we show it pays off visually." "

Ummm, you mean the vorticity equation? Yeah, that's been around for quite some time.

Dear Rudolf

Your idea is very interested. Do you have some sample problem about CFD in movie-industry for me ? Could you please sent detail and requirement to me. Perhaps, I will do the CFD simulation for you : )
