Time averaging in RANS

for what time interval are the dependent variables averaged in RANS ? and when do we substitute/ take account of this time interval, in RANS modeling ?

in RANS formulation, the NS system of equations is averaged a-priori for a time period going to infinity. The RANS equations are formulated directly in terms of statistically steady state
