Dear System Admin of CFD-Online:

I think every one who is using commercial code or inhouse Code. Or making his own code. In all cases he needs the Expermental results along with the Geomtry to validate his/her work.

So my suggestion is that there should be section where one can download experimental results and geomtry.

For example NASA rotor 67 or Rotor 37(ASME blind test case)

I hope this can be done very easily as these test cases are open to public.

Regards

I couldn't agree more with you. A free database of validation cases would be very valuable. For this reason we have also started a validation and test case section in CFD-Wiki, see:

http://www.cfd-online.com/Wiki/Valid...and_test_cases

We have also made this topic the current focus area of CFD-Wiki, see:

http://www.cfd-online.com/Wiki/Focus...and_test_cases

Everyone is of course welcome to continue to add data to the validation and test case section. If you run into any trouble please let me know by email or post a question on the CFD-Wiki forum. Note also that in order to make someone's data freely available in CFD-Wiki you must have permission from the copyright owner to release the data under the GNU Free Documentation License.

Dear Jonas,

I agree with you and also visited the web page you have refered. As it is stated that every body should contribute. I have alot of references for Turbomachinery CFD and I am Ready to write about the it. One point I would like to ask: Is NASA rotor 37 geometry not open to every one?

Im not sure if NASA Rotor 37 is freely available. It is most certainly widely spread, but that doesn't mean that it is free.

Dear Jonas Larsson,

First of all I would like to say thankyou for helping us out on this crucial issue.

As can be seen in NASA report TP-1338, geomtry of rotor is given. But it is difficult to infer. Rather an easy way is to place geomtry in X,Y and Z coordinates.

I hope you can find any solution.

One last thing, What about the test cases you have in your thesis.(Please dont mind it is just a suggestion)

Yes, using the geometry from a published paper is often a bit tricky and increases the risk of errors signigifantly. A test-case database in CFD-Wiki would reduce this risk and make it possible to directly place CAD geometries etc. online.

All data in CFD-Wiki needs to be placed there under the approval of those who owns the copyright of the data though. All content in CFD-Wiki must be freely available and be released under a GNU free documentation license. Only those owning the copyright of the data can do this. To place something in CFD-Wiki you need to ask for the approcal of the original authors first.

I do not own the copyright of any of the test-cases used in my thesis, hence I can not place it in CFD-Wiki without the approval of the original authors. Which data is it that you are interested in?

I have not used NASA rotor 37 so I haven't got that data myself.

Dear Jonas Larsson, IF goemtry is placed in report which is freely availabe, then it does not qualify for no copyright?

Just because data has been published in a journal or report that doesn't mean that the data can be placed anywhere. Only if the data is explicitly marked as either public domain or available under the GNU free documentation license are you alowed to copy the data and make it freely available in a site like CFD-Wiki.

For data which you would like to make available on CFD-Wiki I would recommend that you either contact the original author yourself and ask for his/hers permission to place the data in CFD-Wiki and make it available under a GNU free documentation license. If you prefer that I ask for the permission just email me.

It is very important that a site like CFD-Wiki does not break any copyright terms.
