Good afternoon.

I'm a CFD user for quite some time right now. I usually use commercial codes that are already ready to use. Recently I started to study the field more deeply. I bought some books and right now I'm watching Lorena's barba CFD classes.

Barba's class are awesome but in most cases, CFD code developers use Fortran or C++ to read meshes done by themselves. My goal is to develop my own code for compressible 2D airfoils since the physics of this problem is the most common in my field.

I heard one day that the only way to get the "CFD feeling" is to sit and develop your own code. Right now I'm searching for codes (mesh and solver) to see how its done and start doing my own.

If there is anyone with an old (undergrad, grad, master) code that is possible to send me please fell free to contact me by e-mail: leonardo.mmoliva@gmail.com

thank you guys for the help !

This site has a very nice section on open source codes which you can use for your purposes. As i understand that you might want something easy to start with, consider the following site:

ftp://ftp.springer.de/pub/technik/peric

and buying the relative book.

There are several options for compressible codes

Here are some simple codes which also have airfoil examples in them

NSC2KE (unstructured)
Blazek's CFD book comes with open source code (uns/str)
SU2 educational version (uns)
http://cfdbooks.com/cfdcodes.html (uns)

For unstructured code:- NSC2KE & iNavier
Structured code:- Peric's caffa & recent modification of it in 3d, namely caffa3d.

Personally, I found nsc2ke very handy .... specially if you are interested to make your own solver someday. There are a lot of "adapted" versions of nsc2ke in different labs.

iNavier is like a modified and upgraded form of nsc2ke, you need a good understanding of C++.

Also there is ISAAC by Morrison with many turbulence model & I believe Dr. Praveen made a nice modification of isaac (i think it's named nuwton...not sure).

Also, Blazek has his own compressible NS/euler code which is easy to get from "googling"

wish you best of luck
