vortex street
Dear friends: I look for a code for von carman vortex street . is there anyone who could help me ?

Re: vortex street
Hi,
I am doing simulations of 2D laminar (50 < Re < 150) flow past a fixed or moving cylinder. I use STAR-CD, but many others commercial codes can do it also. The problem is to have a good simulation of the karman street (correct Strouhal number and drag, pressure and lift coefficients for example). I choosed STAR-CD than Fluent because when I started my reserach work, the version 4 of Fluent (only structured mesche) doesn't allow moving mesh with important amplitude. Also with STAR-CD you can compute streaklines. In STAR-CD, which is a finite volume code, we can do unstructured meshes, so you have more possibilities in your simulation. I have not any comparaison between STAR-CD and Fluent in this kind of simulation but STAR-CD gives good results in this intervale of Reynolds number. For example : at Reynolds number of 100, you can see in most references that the Strouhal is beetween 0.164 and 0.167. With STAR-CD I find a Strouhal of 0.165 or 0.166, it depends on the time step and the numercial scheme. Good Luck. Mohamed guerou@isitem.univ-nantes.fr |
