Hello, I have carry out a simulation in order to evaluate the total pressure drop in a duct (with some convergents, deflectors,...) and the result is very different (x10) with a calculation did with litterature (Idel'cik). So I am very septic about the CFD result (low of the determined value). Is CFD really able to determine it?

The accuracy of the CFD simulation depends on many things.

1. How accurately you model the problem ? 2. Proper Boundary Condition 4. Have enough points to resolve the boundary layer if the flow is viscous

being some of them.

What software did you use for your problem ? What kind of Numerical Discretization and boundary conditions? Did you get a qualitative match ?

We have done several simulations for ducts on the order of 10 feet across with good results for pressure drop, using Fluent.
