Can anyone tell me the difference between deformation gradient tensor and velocity gradient tensor? What is the relationship between the two tensors? I just konwn that deformation gradient tensor is a second-order tensor and contains information about both the stretch and rotation of the body. But in Fluid Mechanics, the velocity gradient tensor can be divided into rate of strain and vorticity tensors. So the velocity gradient tensor also include the information of stretch and rotation. The problem maze me. Thank you in advance!
