I am using ubuntu. In ubuntu, I am using lyx, texeditor, etc. The best one is lyx which is a very friendly GUI. As far as I know, you can download the lyx and texeditor from their contributor by rpm or tar.gz format

Just use rpm.

Latex is included in every RedHat (and Fedora) version I have seen so far. When you install Linux (any dist), always use "custom installation" that let's you hand-pick the packages you want to install. Since you're already done with the installation there are various ways to add software packages. If you don't know much about it, the easiest and safest way may be to "update" your installation, using the same CD's/DVD's you used to install it, and this time make sure that Latex is included.

Do the following:

1. Open 'gvim' or any other tex editor. 2. Write whatever you want to right. Save as filename.tex extention. 3. Open a terminal, go to the directory where you have stored filename.tex

4. Type "latex filename.tex" and enter.

5. This will create a .dvi file. You can convert in into .ps or pdf files.

Best wishes.
