Hi All,

I have to analytically model gas (nitrogen) flow in a pipe for my final year project. I am not sure where to start or which methods to use.

Can someone give me an idea on how to start this work - for example which questions should i be asking and which methods should i use?

Thanks for your help,

Dave

Is this a really tough project or is my question badly put?

Does anyone know what assumptions should i start with?

Thanks!

Do you want to do it analytically or can you do numerical simulation? Analytical modelling might restrict the kind of problems you might work on?.Ok assuming you are working on a circular pipe flow, you can look at the paper of langhaar for analytical expression for the velocity and pressure before the flow becomes fully developed. Then for fully developed flow its just the poiseulle flow.Another thing that you can work on is developing some kind of asymptotic solution applicable for a wide variety of geometries.Another option might be modelling partial slip flow in micropipes?.

Hi Harish,

Thank you for your reply and sorry for my delay. I plan to do both analytical and numercial modelling of the flow in a circular pipe. Can you give me the name of the paper by Langhaar?

Thanks Dave

Steady flow in the transition length of a straight tube HL Langhaar - J. Appl. Mech, 1942.

Thanks Harish,

I'm finding it difficult to get this paper, i don't suppose you have an copy or a link to a source?

Regards, Dave

I got the paper as a printed copy during one of my courses.I'm not sure of its availability online.
