The best CFD software is the one you wrote for yourself. It satisfies all your needs.

If you have the time to invest in.
What is the best computer ? The one you build from pieces ... etc ... For what I have read there is not one recommended universal CFD code available. For automotive, I have read several times that star-cd is the more commonly used, but for combustion it might be another one, etc... |

by pieces, I meant fundamental components, like using your own silicate to create the motherboard that suits your needs best etc it was meant to be a little sarcastic...

I was being semi-facetious in my answer. There is no "best". There are softwares favoured by industries. There are solvers that deal with certain classes of problem better. There is no one solver type or software vendor that makes everyone happy.

My advice would be to go for CD-adapco's products STAR-CD and STAR-CCM+. STAR-CD version 3.26 is used in Automotive Industry heavily and is industry leader in this segment. Every major Automotive manufacturer worldwide uses it specialized tools for automotive ES-ICE (for dynamic in-cylinder analysis), ES-uhood (for underhood). For automotive application STAR-CD is the best. It is equipped with best range of combustion and droplet tracking model for automotive combustion.
STAR-CCM+ is CD-adapco's new generation software, it has very good coupled solver for high speed application. Both giants (Airbus and Boeing) are preferring this solver, and it is very easy to use. This solver does not have full capabilities of STAR-CD but have most of it. For combustion also the latest version is extremely powerful. And they have tool called es-turbo (customized mesh generator for turbomachine) which is very easy to use. |

My guess is A.S. is associated with CD-adapco in some manner and is INAPPROPRIATELY using this forum as a sales and marketing tool. If I am wrong, I apologize to you A.S. However, if I am correct, shame on you. You know better and these sorts of tactics "tarnishes" the good name of CD-adapco, not promotes it.
Gopu... Truth is, we are all fortunate to have several viable and credible CFD software products to choose from...each with it's own unique set of pro's and con's. What is "best" more frequently is becoming "what are YOU most familiar with and confident in using and what is available to you". Happy Computing! |

I will never understand the need for sarcastic replies to any post (steve/john deas).
Agree with Glenn, above, but have also heard several times that automotive mainly use CD-Adapco products, but that may have been more corporate stuff. |

look it that way, a funny question needs a funny reply. It is a question that has been asked too many times, if who ever has posted the original question is really interested in a good answer, he could have searched the archive

There is no BEST CFD-Software. Maybe there is a best CFD-Software for the particular problem you want to solve and the knowledge and the experience you have on you own.
