Default hydraulic system response

I am interested in calculating the time lag that occurs between the application of hydraulic pressure at one end of a small ID tube, and the response of a piston at the other end of the tube several thousand feet away and at a different elevation.

Any suggestions on either theoretical calculations, or possible approaches to modelling this problem would be appreciated.
