it seems to me that ANSYS not only buying the big CFD codes but also hosting all subjects related to Is that the beginning of a new monopoly?

Ahmed,
First, as of 13 October the www.cgns.org web site seems to be working just fine. Second, regarding ANSYS hosting all subjects related to CFD, ANSYS' involvement with CGNS goes back to ICEM CFD Engineering whom they acquired several years ago. ICEM did the original development work on CGNS under contract to NASA (or was it ICEM who had a subcontract from Boeing who had the NASA contract?). Regardless, ANSYS' involvement is a historical artifact of ICEM CFD Engineering. |

Have nothing to say against ANSYS expansion plans, years ago, there were fine software products (spread sheets, text editors, etc...) Today they are part of MicroSoft Is not the history repeating itself

In the specific case of CGNS, I do not think that controlling this technology is part of ANSYS' master plan for world domination.
Historically, open file standards have been the anathema of software vendors (see IGES, STEP) because (if you believe the conspiracy theory) it allows users to migrate their data directly into a competitor's product. |
