The boundary layer separates from the wall when dp/dx < 0. To study this phenomenon, i study a diffuser case for laminar flow. I have plotted dp/dx contour and velocity vector for the diffuser. I realize boundary layer has separated even thought the dp/dx is positive on the wall. Am i understanding the separation phenomena correctly ? or i made some mistake in the analysis ?

The flow separates if it undergoes an adverse pressure gradient, that is dp/dx > 0 and not < 0 (i.e. the pressure increases along the flow direction)
