LES inflow turbulence generator

Hi
I am looking for an inflow turbulence generator code to use for LES simulations. Any pointers for FORTRAN90 code (particularly Rogallo method)?
Thanks

There is a free turbulence generator available from the wind energy group at Denmark. It uses Mann's method to generate synthetic inflow turbulence. It is written in Fortran 90.

I have used Mann's method to generate synthetic fluctuations for atmospheric boundary layer simulation LES.

You can also look at the existing synthetic inflow generators in NREL's inflow generator TurbSim.

Thank you very much for the pointers. I found the Mann page.

Since You have already used it can you please comment on how easy it is to integrate with
an existing parallel code? I want to do LES of a jet.

It is pretty straightforward. You get slices of fluctuations on uniform grids. Read the paper by Mann in JFM to understand the method before using it. Should work fine for jets too. Make sure to use high- order schemes. Otherwise the fluctuations will be dissipated.

Good luck.

Hi harishg,

Where can I find the Fortran 90 code for Mann's method?

Many thanks,
Jian

We got the code from Prof. Sorensen at DTU when we met him at a Wind Energy Workshop. I think that they had made the code available for free download. If you could not find it, you can try contacting him.

Best,
Harish

although I don't have an answer to your question, I don't think you need the source code. If you want the equations, they are given in the publication. If you want to use the model, executable simply gives the required turbulence field that you can extract slices. Why bother with the source  :)
