confidence of CFD in turbomachinery

Hey guy. I want some questions from expert CFD users.

Presently I am working on effects of Lean and Sweep on performance of compressor. I am comparing different combination of LEAN and SWEEP in order to segragate the efects of both. I have following questions:

1. Should I use through flow code, if yes then how to assume the value of blockage? 2. Will these results guide in getting better design? 3. Or should I use 3D code but using Euler formulation. 4. If yes then will I get the real difference in performance prediction in all design at hand? 5. Shoud I use the 3D Navier Stokes with appropriate turbulence model? but the appropriate is difficult to estimate. 6. Will it be economical to use 3D full N-S code at this stage of design? 7. if yes will these prediction guide me selecting the best design. 8. More over what should be mesh size for all methods?

Regards

1 throughflow is for fast evaluation for indicators of performance by the design
2 yes they will but i think your work has to do with the analysing different configurations
3 you can 3d simulations throughflow may not be able to show you the whole picture regarding the lean and sweep
4 yes
5 sst is good
6 depends upon how fast your computer
7 not necessarily depends on your skill in deriving conclusion on the flowfield
8 read about y+ mesh size depending upon the reynolds no
