Hello all, could anyone suggest a book on Fluid Mechanics. I have been digging in CFD but I notice that I would need to reinforce my knowlegde about physics.

Thanks!

Since the book section 403s for me, I'll just suggest Frank White's "Fluid Mechanics" which I'm going through now. It's a huge brick of a book (800+ pages) but does a good job at introducing to the field and contains examples (with solutions) to show how the theory is applied. It is aimed at "true" physics though it has a chapter devoted to the computational aspect.

I'm a complete newbie to fluid mechanics (save high school hydrostatics...) and find this book a good read.

It is assumed the reader is familiar with calculus.

Do not expect one book to answer all your questions, try to read the following book, just to start with, Physical Fluid Dynamics D. J. Tritton

There are several ones. Any of these has its own merits and deficiencies.

As a first attempt i suggest:

Kundu, Cohen : Fluid Mechanics, Elsevier (a lot of topics, very easy to follow)

As a second attempt:

Panton : Incompressible Flow, Wiley (more specific and complete on its argument, also easy to follow)

Then start again from the beginning with:

Batchelor : An Introduction to Fluid Mechanics, Cambridge (not so easy to follow...falling in love with Fluid Mechanics)

Take some time to digest the last one and then start again with:

Aris : Vectors, Tensors, and the Basic Equations of Fluid Mechanics, Dover (learning never stops...)

Landau, Lifshitz : Fluid Mechanics, Butterworth & Heimann (Forget what you learned and start again in a compleely different way...amazing)

But there are a lot more that are wonderful books, just check the Amazon site to have some taste
