Hello!
This is the first time I visit cfd-online for posing a question! I am trying to develop a 3D code for predicting raditive heat transfer. I use finite volume method, because I want to include later the code in an other CFD code. I have some problems, even in simple cases, probably from boundary conditions. My results (especially for fully scattering cases) seem to be 2,5% to 4% percent different when I compare them with results from 2D solvers! Can anyone help me?
thanks!

Hello gnl,

The reasons for the errors you mention may result from various causes (assuming your solver is bug-free). Please refer to the Introduction of our paper

Curriculum Vita A. Fiterman, R. Ben-Zvi,. and A. Kribus, DOTS: Pseudo-Time-Stepping solution of the Discrete-Ordinate Equations, Numerical Heat Transfer, Part B, Vol. 35 No. 2, pp. 163-183, 1999.

and references therein (e.g., the "ray effect" and "false scattering"). If these are the reasons for the errors, you may improve the accuracy by using higher directional and spatial resolutions to address the above two effects, respectively.

I hope it helps,
Rami
