hi all, here is a simple textbook problem: "free convection(of air) on a vertical flat plate"...

my approach: plate is at a uniform temperature 0f 100 deg c. i have taken a rectangular domain surrounding one side of the plate. one boundary condition is clear i.e plate at uniform temperature. Apart from this, i know only air temperature when it is still. now, i want to know how can i apply other boundary conditions.

Am i clear?

Hello Venkat,

You will have to decide how you want to reach that average temperature. A "classic textbook problem" would be to set the temperature of the opposite wall to a lower temperature (top and bottom adiabatic).

Good luck, Wiebe.

Which software are you going to use?

In CFX, you will have to set Inlet and "Outlet/Opening" B.C. For buoyancy-driven flow, you need to set the reference density or reference temperature. Try to set reference density as per solver recommendation (I guess it is the lowest density that can occur at a point inside the domain).

However, the most important is to set the pressure at the lower face! The hydrostatic presssure equivalent to (rho*g*h) should be set at the lower face!
