2D test case validation in a 3D solver

Dear all,

The question I had was when we want to solve a 2D (@ x, y) case in a 3D solver, we give a 1 cell thickness in the third direction (say z), is it require to keep the cell thickness in this third direction within a limit. Or, while discretization, we have to do some special treatment for the third direction.

The solver is in house 3D unstructured all speed solver.

with regards,
Ashwani

depends on the way your solver is constructed

The solver is constructed for a general 3D test cases. Thus, has no special treatment for the 2D test case.

why don't you justt try

you can check by setting periodic condition in the third direction, using a small slice (a couple of cells)
