Default CFD Analysis of Model Aircraft

Hi,

I am in need of a tutorial on the meshing and analysis(3D) of an entire aircraft using Gambit and Fluent. I have created a CAD model. Any help would be really appreciated.

You need to import your geometry into Gambit. create a volume around the imported geometry, subtract your geometry from the volume, because of the symmetry of the flow field you need half that, use a plane to clip it, mesh, assigne your boundary conditions and start your run. Good Luck

Hi,

I have created and subtracted the volume in GAMBIT. I've done this for half the wing at present. I plan to do this for the entire aircraft after this. But i'm getting an error during meshing abt skewness and i'm not able to sort it out. Any advice?

change mesh density (number and distribution) until you are happy with the mesh, important to remember "No negative volume" it is unrealistic to advice on details without having a complete picture of what you are doing and what are your objectives from this simulation, for instance how big is your domain compared to the plane size, how many skewed cells compared to the total number of cells, is it subsonic or supersonic flow simulation, etc..............Good Luck

Thanks for your reply. Here are soem details for the analysis of a half wing: Wing chord: 500mm Wing span(half span):1250mm Enclosure volume(brick volume): 6000*4000*5000 mm It is subsonic flow.

I have tried various mesh densities but to no avail. My aim is to visualize the flow over this wing and then insert wingtips and check the difference. If you have any advice it would be really helpful.

Also, any idea what the function "ignore size mesh" in Gambit will do when toggled on?

I saw your pictures of mesh. I always thought structured mesh can work much much better for this kind of case. And the generation of the structured mesh for this case is not very difficult. I'm wondering has anyone ever tested the accuracy of the unstructured mesh for this kind of case comparing with the structured mesh? Any experience on that?
