Default Mesh generator for KIVA-3V?

Since some years we have been trying to generate grid for typical 4-valve pent-roof type combustion chamber. Of course all four valves and piston are moving.

We tried ICEM CFD/CAE with KIVA-3 interface but somehow the output mesh was not readable by KIVA-3V due to some boundary condition set-up etc. Therefore we had to write a conversion program and to use Star-CD for boundary condition modifications.

Could anyone help us this problem? Any other mesh generator available for KIVA-3V?

Hi,

I work for Icem CFD based in the UK. What type of grid did you generate ? ie, was it a fully structured multiblock mesh (IJK only) or did it have extra O-grid directions ? Kiva only supports the former.

regards

David

Sorry for not mentioning the mesh type. All hexa meshes are allowed in Kiva-3v for a 4-valve pent-roof combustion chamber. We have used ICEM CFD with HEXA module for a base mesh.

Dear Nam, Dave

The new ICEM CFD interface does take care of the boundary conditions for KIVA3(V). We have been using ICEM CFD HEXA to create models for moving piston and valves. With some nice features such as "align verticies" you can make sure not to get non-convex cells. Some of these models have been very complicated and had included valve pockets and bowls. We do have a copy of KVIA in our Detroit office to make sure the translation and boundary set up are working fine. Please contact us at info@icemcfd.com for the latest ICEM CFD interface to KIVA3(V).
