Spam problems
A spammer recently posted more than 2,000 spam messages here. This caused all real messages to be moved to the archive. I will restore this asap. However, I need to be able to login to the server to do that and I can't do that from where I am now. In a few hours time I will fix this. In the mean time you can always post new questions here, but remember that all old messages will be restore in a few hours so don't re-post something that you have already posted.

Re: Spam problems
I have never read any of those spam messages. At least until now, their nonsense titles made it easy to avoid clicking on them. Jonas, but I wonder, are they just ads or do they poison the cfd-online server such that just viewing their content might upload some malware to the reader's computer? Have you found the server to be compromised?

Re: Spam problems
These spam messages are just randomly titled posts that contain one or several links to other web-sites. These messages are posted in order to get unsuspecting people to click on the links and thereby draw traffic to those sites. There are no viruses or similar involved and the server has not been compromised in any way. The spam is posted by automatic programs that submit *many* messages to *many* forums.

However, this spam is most often posted from computers that have been hacked and contains malware. That makes it difficult to stop this spam since it does not come from just one IP number that you can block, but it comes from thousands of hacked computers whose owners are probably unaware of that their computer is used to post this type of spam on thousands of forums.

Re: Spam problems
Yep, this time the main forum was hit. We are also currently getting a lot of spam to CFD-Wiki. Peter has been buzy to remove that.

Spam is no fun when you are trying to run a website that accepts data posted by anyone :(
