I'm planning to take my MS in Computational Engg specializing in CFD and am considering the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga. I've been reading mixed feedback on the school. Does anyone have feedback on their program?

By rumor, I know some of the history of the department.
In the 90's, the main computational engineering CFD work was done at UT Knoxville, the flagship campus. An alumnus of the Chattanooga school (UTC), made a large donation to start a program at UTC. This (according to rumor) caused some friction between the two schools, with some feeling expressed that the duplication would dilute both programs. Clearly that was resolved because the top research engineer in the UTK program, A J Baker, is listed as faculty in the UTC program. Key staff members of the new UTC program came from Mississippi State University, where outstanding grid generation expert Joe Thompson was retiring. As for the program itself, take some time (on Google?) to learn the interests of all the faculty members listed on the UTC web page before you decide. Hope this is of some help. |
