upwind scheme implementation

Hi Everyone
I m coding for a case using upwind scheme. I have two rather naive questions regarding that.
Firstly, the convection term, uV. If any upwind method is to be used we have to apply condition what direction is the velocity. In case of flow on an airfoil, does that mean we have to start solution from direction of flow entry? Since initially, inside the domain its all zero velocities. What if the airfoil is moving. Now start solution from where ?
Secondly, do we apply upwind method to both u and V of the convection term ? But upwind scheme assumes u is known with direction !!!

pls guide
regards

what you are asking is well described in any textbook of CFD...the upwind is based on the local sign of the velocity component transporting the momentum species. When the velocity is zero, you simply have zero convection...
