Undergraduate Coursework
Hi, im an undergrad student and i have been assigned this coursework. im just new to the use of CFD and in a matter of fact dont really understand it.
The coursework asks for: 1. Write a short essay (not more than 4000 words) outlining the approaches used by the developers of CFD programmes to address the issue of the “Closure” problem in turbulence. Your account should include: a. Description of the models/theories used (including mathematical description of the models and their parameters). (50%) b. The advantages and disadvantages of each formulation. (15%) c. The applicability of the models to different flow situations (i.e. near wall, highly rotational, etc.) (15%) 2. Provide a brief account comparing the implementation of turbulence models in two commercial CFD codes of your choice. Can anyone help me understand or direct me places with useful information to fulfill this coursework. I would be extremely grateful. StuTait (BEng Mech Student) |
Can someone please help me even if its briefly, i have been reading into but i dont understand what i have been asked. what is the mathematical description?

I think all these questions can be answered in the first three chapters of this book:
An Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics: The Finite Volume Method - Veersteg |
Hi thanks, this book proved to be very helpful and managed to get section A done over the weekend.
but as for section B i have no idea. i cant seem to even find anything on the internet 2. Provide a brief account comparing the implementation of turbulence models in two commercial CFD codes of your choice. if someone could explain to me what this means that would be great. i read about the three main elements etc but im not sure how this would differ for developers such as ANSYS compared to another commercial programme. |
