Hello all,
I'm a total noob to CFD (I come from a 3D background). I have access to a 3D visualization software and I want to try it out with some complex data. I thought CFD would be an appropriate candidate for this. So my totally noob question is: do packages such as Fluent/Autodesk CFD etc export CFD output in 3D formats (obj, fbx etc) ? If yes, what would be a good learning tool for me to learn these? Cheers! |

Yes, CFD programs provide a three-dimensional output file. What kind of problem would you like to study? Please tell.

Maybe I didn't explain it clearly. I'm not trying to solve any problem.
I want to try out a visualization tool which I have access to using some complex datasets which I think CFD tools would generate. Maybe this is a long shot but is there any way I can get the output of a CFD in a 3D format (FBX, OBJ etc)? |

CFD programs have a post-processing component to visualise data but it is specifically designed to process data on fluids. The ones I recall:
- OpenFOAM (free) uses Paraview for visualizing its output. Paraview can read obj files, and also about 70 other formats. - Ansys CFX (non-free) uses CFD-Post for visualizing its output. It can import ANSYS (*.cdb) and Generic (*.csv) file formats. - Ansys FLUENT (non-free) has a built-in visualization component. It can import files from about 16 external file formats. |
