Hi! Could anyone advise me on CFD software that is capable to model a system where a solid body can move and turn in the flow? Let's say how a leaf will behave when it falls in the air. I looked at Solidworks and Ansys, and it looks that there the model must be fixed related to the flow.

I don't recommend having any expectations out of SolidWorks for CFD, you just take it as-is.

Ansys and all your commercial solvers do support mesh motion and morphing bodies but I do not recommend your first CFD case to have anything moving at all.

If you are interested in rag doll physics, I suggest to look into Unreal Engine.

Hi, there are a couple of papers on this, e.g., 'Numerical simulations of falling leaves using a pseudo-spectral method with volume penalization' by Kolomenskiy, Dmitry and Schneider, Kai, 2010. They developed their own code I guess. But for CFD software I wonder if OpenFOAM can do this.

Hello !

Indeed, OpenFOAM is a powerful software for computational fluid dynamics, and with proper configuration and customization, it should be able to perform similar simulations efficiently.
