Jobs for chemical engineeers after PhD in CFD
 

Want to know what are the job prospects after a PhD in CFD for a chemical engineer ? Would like to learn about 3-4 good groups in this area in Europe.

(1). You can look into several areas. (2). One is the job section of this forum. CFD software vendors tend to post their CFD jobs here. It covers a wide range of jobs, from sale engineers to post-processing programmers. (3). In the application area, there are areas which are related to chemical engineering. (4). Outside this job section, you can look into teaching and reseach jobs, engineering jobs at chemical related companies. (5). The other way to find out the current need is to use Internet Job search sites and type in key words like cfd, chemical, etc.. (6). In some countries, PhD gets his job mainly in universities doing research and teaching. In other countries, a PhD can find a better job in industry. And sometimes, it is a strong function of your professor, his reputation, and his connection with the rest of the world. This sometimes is very important for a PhD candidate. (7). By the way, there is no guarantee that every PhD candidate will get his degree.

from my reading of trade magazines like ASME's 'Mechanical Engineer' i've gotten the impression that opportunities for CFDers in areas that may be relevant to Chemical Enigneering are getting relatively more prevalent. it used to be that most jobs in CFD were in the aerospace business but now more are in things like process simulation and control so i think things are better than they used to be. if you are a member of a technical society related to chemical engineering their monthly magazine/newsletter would have a classified section. example 'Mechanical Engineer' has a rather thick posting at the back of each issue offering a lot of positions for persons with advanced degrees and experience. also your advisor would have industrial contacts. some advisors (i think) don't like to find their PhDs jobs because they wouldn't mind if their students stayed in school longer (after all you are cheap labor). also you can seacrh online as John said. i use monster.com which also has international listings and i get personalised listing every day (you can't really search them every day but they send them anyway) finding a good job is not easy and you have to search for yourself. think of it as a special projects course
