Hi guys ,

I`m going to model a gravity decanter like the picture below. This decanter is used for the continuous separation of two immiscible liquids of differing densities. The feed mixture enters at one end of the separator. Two liquids flow slowly through the vessel, separate into two layers and discharge through overflow line at the other end of the separator.

Provided the overflow lines are so large that frictional resistance to the flow of the liquid is negligible and provided they discharge at the same pressure as that in the gas space above the liquid in the vessel, the performance of the decanter can be analyzed by the principles of the fluid statics.

Can I model this unit simply like the 2d image below? If yes, how should I set the boundary condition for such a problem?

Guys have you done anything like this?
I really need your help…Thanks….

If you want to demonstrate the principle than your sketch and a 2D approach might be sufficient.

And what should be the 2D plane you would simulate? I don't see a particular 2D section representative of the problem...
